Congratulations on your decision to get married on beautiful Galveston Island! We are sure that you will fall in love with our city no matter what time of year you choose.


To obtain a marriage license, you need to go to any Texas County Court or the Court of the County of Galveston, located in the 722 Moody, (in downtown Galveston). The office is open Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. You may reach the office by phone at 409-766-2200. You may appear separately or together before the County Clerk when applying for your marriage license. A blood test is not required to obtain a marriage license. If you are over 18 years of age, you will need to bring a birth certificate or driver's license and $36 in cash. If you are younger than 18, you must bring a parent or legal guardian with you, along with your birth certificate or driver's license and $36 in cash. If either person is divorced, he/she will need to provide the date of the divorce. (If the divorce occurred within the previous 30 days, the person must provide a certified copy of the divorce decree). Neither one of you have to be a resident of Texas. If you are from out-of-state or do NOT have a driver's license, you will need your Social Security card and a photo ID. You will need your Passport if you are from another country. There is a 72 hour (3 days) waiting period in Texas. This can be waived for active duty military personnel. The marriage license is valid for a period of 30 days. Witnesses are not required.

The Coppersmith Inn provides you an economical alternative for your wedding. We make available the parlor, dining room, and garden for a fee, and you provide all the wedding necessities. We are able to accommodate a single couple or a party up to 25 reasonably comfortable. At least one member of the wedding party must have a two-night reservation at the prevailing rate for the room chosen. The cost to use the following facilities are: a single couple in the parlor or garden, $150.00; a group up to 25 for a one-hour stand-up wedding in the parlor and dining room or garden, $300.00; a group up to 25 for a three-hour stand-up wedding and reception (includes one-hour to set up and clean up) in the parlor and dining room or garden $450.00; The Coppersmith Inn is only providing the facilities, all other needs preacher, photographer, caterer, flowers, and utensils must be supplied by you. You can caterer it yourself if you would like, or we can provide a list of services that you can use. Bridal catered luncheon or dinner for a group of 10, $300.00. The Inn is a beautiful setting for any occasion; bridal showers, baby showers, birthday or anniversary celebrations; group of 10, $300.00, group of 10 to 25, $400.00. (3 hours /includes 1 hour for set up and clean up). This would have to be provided by a professional caterer and would have the use of the kitchen to prepare the food. They would have to bring their own stove, dishes, glasses, and utensils. An additional 15% tax will be collected for the city and state.


The carriage ride begins at the Coppersmith Inn proceeds to the Strand area and then to the harbor waterfront, the East End Historical District and back to the Coppersmith Inn. The ride takes and hour and James Coffman narrates the whole trip and is very familiar with the history of Galveston. The cost is $75.00 cash and you pay the driver directly (we do not take a commission). If there are two couples the price is $125.00 cash and paid directly to the driver. A tip is customary if you feel it deserves a tip. Coffman Carriage is our preferred carriage company because he has been in business for 15 years and takes excellent care of his horses. We had customers from San Antonio that were carriage drivers and they checked out all the carriages and said Coffman took the best care of his horses.


Romantic Evening Package, includes chocolate dipped strawberries, assorted chocolates, champagne or sparkling drink, voltives candles flickering about the room, romantic music softly playing, or your, favorite CD. The cost is $40.00 plus tax

2. Will it be after a Carriage Ride or after dinner?


The Coppersmith Inn is an outstanding location for romantic wedding pictures. With semi tropical grounds for outdoor shots, an 1887 Victorian home with gingerbread trim, double verandah, turret tower, spectacular winding staircase of teak, walnut and curly pine highlighted by stained glass and ornate newel post. There are large windows with original glass, and exquisite heirloom antiques. Guests staying at the Coppersmith Inn would have free access to their room, the parlor, staircase, and grounds for their pictures. Non-guests would have a fee of $100.00 per hour with a two hour minimum. The fee includes access to one room to dress and photograph and access to the parlor, staircase and the grounds.

Be sure to let the photographer know what kind of photography you want, such as traditional portraits, photojournalistic candids, black-and-white or hand tinted special effects. Ask for samples of at least three weddings that have been shot by the photographer. Check to see what services are included in the photo package and what may be an extra charge.

Galveston Island’s dress code is, “island casual,” and is accepted in most all restaurants. However these restaurants are of the highest quality and you will be more comfortable dressed up.
